Reflections on the New Year

I love a new day, a new week, a new year. It's a fresh page. I love the feeling that everything is brand new, with no mistakes yet. It's not yet bad or good. It's not yet mediocre. It's blank or "un-written" in the words of Natasha Bedingfield.

I find that making New Years Resolutions is like that old saying, "rules are made to be broken". It's seems that New Year's Resolutions are made to be broken. However, I'm not such a grouch that I don't feel the need to take advantage of the blank page so cleanly laid before me. That being said, here are some of my goals for 2011:

1. Learn to play golf.
2. Learn to cook more "different things".
ex: eggplant, duck, etc.
3. Give to more to charity/church.
4. Put shelves in the attic. (This is a biggie).
5. I don't have a five. Oh well, one less thing to accomplish.

I guess #5 could have been the ever present "I need to workout more" cliche, but I just couldn't do it. I mean, it's true I do, but everyone could workout more. Or how about, my house could be cleaner, because it definitely could. However, no matter how clean your house is, it could always be cleaner.

I just decided that my "New Year's Resolutions" should be attainable, specific, and really mean something to me. Trying to workout more, keep my house cleaner, and eat healthier (just threw that one in as an after thought) is a constant in my life. It's not a new goal. It is an ever present thought in my mind.

I hope that you have thought about your "blank page" and all the possibilities. I like to remember that the only thing that is holding me back from becoming the person I'm meant to be is me.

Happy New Year! May it be wonderful.
